Student leadership

Student leaders are an integral part of Park Lake State School and varied opportunities exist within the school for students to develop leadership skills and responsibilities.
School and Sports Captains are Year 6 students elected by pupils of Year 4, 5 and 6 and the school staff. Each year the school elects two School Captains and one Sports Captain is chosen for each of the four sports houses.
School Captains:
Our School Captains take an active role in all aspects of the school community. They must be approachable, reliable, organised and have the confidence to communicate with staff and students and also speak at school events. The School Captains represent students at official functions, speak at school assemblies, help at special events and assist in the running of the Student Council. It is the responsibility of the School Captains to liaise between the Principal and the Student Council.
Sports Captains:
Sports Captains play a pivotal role at all sporting events to encourage all students to participate. They are responsible for keeping students enthusiastic during sporting events and lead their house war cries. These students also help out at a number of sporting events held across the school such as volunteering at junior events, help set up Friday afternoon structured sporting events and coordinate some structured games during breaks.
Student Council
Our school has one Student Council representative from every class across the school. This member is elected by the students in their class. Our School and Sports Captains are also members of the Student Council. Student Council meetings are held monthly to discuss any issues or concerns within the school and also to organise fundraising events. Each term the members coordinate a fundraiser for either an external charity or to raise money for a school-based project.
Miss Michelle Bell coordinates the School and Sports Captains as well as the Year 4 – 6 Student Councillors. Mrs Andrea Crane coordinates the Prep – Year 3 Student Council meetings.
